Traveling with a pet to and from Honduras to the USA
To bring your dog or cat to Honduras, an international health certificate from your vet is required. This includes a vaccine record which MUST prove a yearly Leptospirosis booster for dogs and rabies vaccine. The health certificate must be not older than 10 days at the time of travel.
Once you go through Customs, the SEPA officials, located in baggage claim, will take you into the office and fill out papers checking the Health Certificate and vaccine records, especially the Leptospirosis vaccine, and charge you 500 lempiras (approximately $25). Arrangements must be made through the airlines when booking your flight.
When leaving Honduras, you will have to get Exit papers from a Honduran veterinarian. This must be done within 10 days of leaving along with a current vaccine record including Leptospirosis for dogs. Again, arrangements must be made through your airline when booking your flight. The following pet doctors can provide this for you:
Dr. Calderone in La Ceiba, tel. 2441-1812 or 9995-2260
Dr. Santiago Soto in Roatan, tel. 9909-0595
